The Brief: H:32, a hub for high-tech startups in the heart of Berlin, needed a design for its long corridors that reflected the spirit of innovation.
The Mission: An office design that doesn't just decorate, but intellectually stimulates. Spanning 80 meters, the theme "Science" was to be reinterpreted through various urban art styles to provide tenants—modern knowledge workers—with a creative inspiration space.
The Concept: "Faces of Knowledge" TAPE OVER teamed up with artist Falk Land for a radical Collaboration. The concept honors the pioneers of science through large-scale portrait art, but visually deconstructs them. Historical figures meet modern street art techniques. It is visual storytelling symbolizing the progress from theory to practice—perfectly suited for a startup environment. We looked at the history of science and taped that evolution onto the walls.
The Execution: The project is a prime example of mixed media. The artists combined tapeart, graffiti, painting, and paste-up into a seamless collage. The precision of the adhesive tapes (representing geometric structures and data streams) contrasts with the raw aesthetic of the paste-ups and brushstrokes. Through this technical complexity, a mural emerged that is perceived as a unit from a distance but reveals countless details up close—analogous to complex knowledge work. We took the abstract nature of research and taped that into a tangible timeline.
The Outcome: An 80-meter-long homage to human ingenuity. The design transforms the passageway into a gallery of ideas, creating an identity for the building that goes far beyond standard corporate art.
