THE IDEA: NATURE MEETS ADHESIVE TAPE
True to our name TAPE OVER, we left the paint and brushes behind, even on the beaches of Hawaii. For the inaugural Isle 9 Festival on the famous North Shore of Oahu, we created an art project symbolizing Hawaiian culture. We used nothing but adhesive tape to bring our vision to life on a massive 8x3 meter canvas. We analyzed the breathtaking natural backdrop with its huge mountains and taped that organic flow directly into our piece so it would blend perfectly with the environment.
THE DESIGN: UPCYCLING AS STREET ART
In addition to the main canvas, which acted as a temporary mural in the middle of nature, we expanded the installation into the three-dimensional space. We collected broken surfboards—a common sight on the North Shore. Instead of letting them rot, we turned them into objects of modern art. We covered the cracks and damages with fresh, dynamic patterns and set them up like a vibrant garden fence.
THE TECHNIQUE: OUTDOOR ART
Creating such a large wall design outdoors, right next to the rough ocean, demands everything from the material. Sun, wind, and salty air turned the creation of this tape art piece into a real logistical challenge. We embraced the raw coastal energy and taped that vibe onto the discarded boards, proving that the DIY spirit of urban art can make a powerful statement even on the most remote beaches in the world.
For the Isle 9 festival, which took place for the first time on Oahu/Hawaii, we created a tape art installation, which symbolizes Hawaii.
Because the festival was in the middle of nature with huge mountains in the back, we decides to shape this 8x3m canvas that it fits right in the environment.

DIE IDEE: NATUR TRIFFT KLEBEBAND
Gemäß unserem Prinzip TAPE OVER verzichten wir auch am Strand von Hawaii konsequent auf Farbe und Pinsel. Für das erste Isle 9 Festival an der legendären North Shore von Oahu erschufen wir ein Kunstprojekt, das die hawaiianische Kultur symbolisiert. Wir nutzten ausschließlich Klebeband, um unsere Vision auf eine 8x3 Meter große Fläche zu bannen. Diese organische Form der Urban Art wurde von uns bewusst so in Form geschnitten, dass sie sich nahtlos in die atemberaubende Naturkulisse mit den massiven Bergen im Hintergrund einfügt.
DAS DESIGN: UPCYCLING ALS STREET ART
Neben der großen Hauptfläche, die wie ein temporäres Wandbild mitten in der Natur funktionierte, erweiterten wir die Installation in den Raum hinein. Wir sammelten kaputte Surfbretter – ein allgegenwärtiges Überbleibsel an der North Shore. Anstatt sie aufzugeben, machten wir sie zum Träger für unsere Kunst. Wir überklebten die Brüche mit dynamischen Mustern und reihten die Boards wie einen bunten Gartenzaun auf.
DIE TECHNIK: OUTDOOR KUNST
Eine so großflächige Wandgestaltung unter freiem Himmel, direkt am rauen Ozean, verlangt dem Material alles ab. Sonne, Wind und salzige Luft machen das Arbeiten an diesem Tape Art Werk zu einer echten logistischen Herausforderung. Dennoch zeigt dieses Projekt eindrucksvoll, dass der DIY-Charakter unserer Arbeit keine Grenzen kennt und Street Art selbst an den entlegensten Stränden der Welt kraftvoll funktioniert.
