THE ESSENCE: CITY AS AN ORGANISM
Berlin is unfinished. It is loud, it is quiet, it is concrete, and it is life. With the piece "URBAN LAYERS," we didn't want to just depict this feeling, but to reconstruct it. The city here is not a pretty postcard, but a complex layer system. We wanted to show how architecture grows, how power lines slice through the sky, and how structure imposes itself upon chaos.
THE CLASH: PAINT & MARKER MEETS TAPE
This mural thrives on contradiction. It is a visual dialogue between two absolutely opposing techniques:
The Stroke (Marker & Paint): Our collaboration partner brought the soul of the city to the wall with fine markers and paint. Sketchy, trembling, detailed—like a memory of old facades and backyards.
The Line (Duct Tape): TAPE OVER responded with radical precision. The adhesive tape draws sharp, uncompromising boundaries. It symbolizes modern infrastructure, new buildings, the rhythm of the city. It is both a battle and an embrace: the tape overlays the drawing, frames it, and gives stability to the fragile elements.
THE PERSPECTIVE: MACRO VS. MICRO
The artwork demands movement from the viewer. From a Distance, you see a graphic, almost abstract composition in black, white, and gray—a modern mural that fits perfectly into the architecture of H:32. But step Closer, and a second world opens up. You discover tiny windows, antennas, cast shadows, and structures lovingly crafted with the marker. It is an invitation not just to consume the city in passing, but to stop and search for the details.
DIE ESSENZ: STADT ALS ORGANISMUS
Berlin ist unfertig. Es ist laut, es ist leise, es ist Beton und es ist Leben. Mit dem Werk „URBAN LAYERS“ wollten wir dieses Gefühl nicht nur abbilden, sondern rekonstruieren. Die Stadt ist hier keine hübsche Postkarte, sondern ein komplexes Schichtsystem. Wir wollten zeigen, wie Architektur wächst, wie Stromleitungen den Himmel zerschneiden und wie sich Struktur über das Chaos legt.
DER CLASH: FARBE & MARKER TRIFFT TAPE
Dieses Wandbild lebt vom Widerspruch. Es ist ein visueller Dialog zwischen zwei absolut gegensätzlichen Techniken:
Der Strich (Marker & Paint): Unser Kollaborationspartner brachte die Seele der Stadt mit feinen Markern und Farbe an die Wand. Skizzenhaft, zittrig, detailliert – wie eine Erinnerung an alte Fassaden und Hinterhöfe.
Die Linie (Duct Tape): TAPE OVER antwortete darauf mit radikaler Präzision. Das Klebeband zieht scharfe, kompromisslose Grenzen. Es symbolisiert die moderne Infrastruktur, die neuen Gebäude, den Takt der Stadt. Es ist ein Kampf und eine Umarmung zugleich: Das Tape überlagert die Zeichnung, rahmt sie ein und gibt dem Zerbrechlichen Halt.
DIE PERSPEKTIVE: MAKRO VS. MIKRO
Das Werk verlangt Bewegung vom Betrachter. Aus der Distanz sieht man eine grafische, fast abstrakte Komposition in Schwarz, Weiß und Grau – ein modernes Wandbild, das sich perfekt in die Architektur des H:32 einfügt. Doch tritt man näher, öffnet sich eine zweite Welt. Man entdeckt winzige Fenster, Antennen, Schattenwürfe und Strukturen, die mit dem Marker liebevoll ausgearbeitet wurden. Es ist eine Einladung, die Stadt nicht nur im Vorbeigehen zu konsumieren, sondern stehenzubleiben und die Details zu suchen.
This is a collaboration artwork between RØB // TAPE OVER and Christian Rothenhagen (deerBLN) for H:32 - an office building for start-ups in the center of Berlin. We were asked to design several floors of this building. Thus, we decided to show our full artistic range. The topic of this floor is city. We combined TAPE ART, PAINTING and MARKER to create an urban but abstract look & feel.
