The Brief: In Beijing, the goal was to create an artwork celebrating the human spirit of exploration. The task was to execute an astronaut motif as realistically as possible using only tape. It wasn't about abstraction, but hyperrealism: The viewer needed to palpably feel the zero gravity and the silence of space.
The Concept: "Reflections of the Unknown" TAPE OVER founder RØB chose a hyper-realistic approach. The focus lay on the helmet visor and the Reflections within it—the window to the world. The concept plays with light & shadow to give depth to the flat material. The astronaut stands here not as an alien entity, but as a beacon of future vision and human courage. We looked into the void and taped that silence into a portrait.
The Execution: On a 3x2 meter surface, the artist worked exclusively with duct tape. The challenge was to recreate the complex folds of the space suit and the metallic sheen of the helmet solely through the layering of tape. It is pure craftsmanship: every strip was precisely cut to perfect the illusion of reality. We took the complexity of a spacesuit and taped that detail by detail.
The Outcome: An intimate portrait of a traveler between worlds. "Zero Gravity" proves that tapeart can strike quiet, almost photorealistic notes, captivating the viewer through its profound symbolism.
Das Briefing: In Peking sollte ein Kunstwerk geschaffen werden, das den menschlichen Entdeckergeist zelebriert. Die Aufgabe war es, das Motiv eines Astronauten so realistisch wie möglich mit Klebeband umzusetzen. Es ging nicht um Abstraktion, sondern um Detailtreue: Der Betrachter sollte die Schwerelosigkeit und die Stille des Alls förmlich spüren können.
Das Konzept: „Reflections of the Unknown“ TAPEOVER (Artist: ROB) wählte einen Ansatz des Hyperrealismus. Der Fokus lag auf dem Helmvisier und der Reflexion darin – dem Fenster zur Welt. Das Konzept spielt mit Licht & Schatten, um dem flachen Material Tiefe zu verleihen. Der Astronaut steht hier nicht als fremdes Wesen, sondern als Symbol für Zukunftsvision und menschlichen Mut.
Die Umsetzung: Auf einer Fläche von 3x2 Metern wurde ausschließlich mit Duct Tape gearbeitet. Die Herausforderung bestand darin, die komplexen Falten des Raumanzugs und den metallischen Glanz des Helms allein durch Schichtung (Layering) von Klebeband zu erzeugen. Es ist pure Handwerkskunst: Jedes Stück Tape wurde präzise geschnitten, um die Illusion von Realismus zu perfektionieren.
Das Ergebnis: Ein grafisches Portrait eines Reisenden zwischen den Welten. Das Werk „Zero Gravity“ beweist, dass Tape Art auch leise, fast fotorealistische Töne anschlagen kann und zieht den Betrachter durch seine Symbolkraft in den Bann.
