THE IDEA: ANALOG MEETS DIGITAL
This art project at Betahaus Berlin marked a milestone for us: it was our first live performance in the field of tape mapping. At the "Maker Party" 2012, we wanted to take our raw adhesive tape art to the next level. True to our TAPE OVER DNA, we completely avoided brushes and paint for this 6x3 meter wall design. As tape art artists, we constructed an abstract mural entirely out of tape, providing the perfect, sharp-edged foundation for digital augmentation.
THE PERFORMANCE: ART TO THE BEAT
What made this installation special was the creation process. We created the entire wall art piece live in front of an audience during a DJ set. As our tape art crew pulled the physical lines, the French visual artist duo ONDÉ simultaneously projected their animations with pinpoint accuracy onto our strips. The static urban art began to pulse and glow to the rhythm of the music. We felt the energy of the beat and taped that dynamic flow directly onto the wall in real-time.
THE TECHNIQUE: TAPE MAPPING
This fusion of analog craftsmanship and digital video mapping showcases the immense potential of our art form. The raw DIY character of indoor street art was transformed here by cutting-edge technology. The tape no longer acts merely as matter, but as a canvas for light. We successfully launched this new medium and taped that innovative concept into a completely new spatial experience.
Trying out new styles for the first time is inequal parts nerve racking, as it is really exciting. The first time we performedTape Mapping was for the “Maker Party” in 2012, at Betahaus in Berlin.
We were really happy with the result, as wereour collaborators, ONDÉ - a visual artist duo from France. It was the firsttime we’d worked with together, and the smoothness of the process only made uslook forward to future projects with them.
Not only was it our first time tape mapping,but we also decided to perform the whole project live where we created anabstract tape art piece during the DJ-gig, and ONDÉ performed their projectionmapping simultaneously.
Wir nahmen die Maker Party 2012 im Betahaus Berlin zum Anlass, um unser TAPE MAPPING das erste Mal live aufzuführen. Die Maker Party ist eine Art Workshop- und Präsentationsplattform im Co-Workingspace / Kreativzentrum Betahaus.
TAPE MAPPING ist eine Kombination aus zwei unterschiedlichen Street Art Stilen - nämlich Tape Art (analog) und Video Mapping (digital). Wir kreierten zusammen mit dem französischen Visual Artist Duo ONDÉ eine Live-Performance während eines DJ-Gigs.

DIE IDEE: ANALOG TRIFFT DIGITAL
Dieses Kunstprojekt im Betahaus Berlin markierte einen Meilenstein für uns: Es war unsere erste Live-Performance im Bereich Tape Mapping. Auf der "Maker Party" 2012 wollten wir unsere rohe Klebeband Kunst auf das nächste Level heben. Getreu unserer TAPE OVER DNA verzichteten wir bei dieser 6x3 Meter großen Wandgestaltung komplett auf Pinsel und Farbe. Wir konstruierten als Tape Art Künstler ein abstraktes Wandbild aus reinem Tape, das die perfekte, kantige Grundlage für eine digitale Erweiterung bot.
DIE PERFORMANCE: KUNST IM TAKT
Das Besondere an dieser Installation war der Entstehungsprozess. Wir klebten das gesamte Wanddesign live vor Publikum während eines DJ-Sets. Während wir als Tape Art Crew die physischen Linien zogen, projizierte das französische Visual-Artist-Duo ONDÉ zeitgleich ihre Animationen punktgenau auf unsere Streifen. Die ansonsten statische Urban Art begann im Rhythmus der Musik zu pulsieren und zu leuchten.
DIE TECHNIK: TAPE MAPPING
Diese Verschmelzung aus analogem Handwerk und digitalem Video Mapping zeigt das enorme Potenzial unserer Kunstform. Der raue DIY-Charakter der Street Art wurde hier durch modernste Technik transformiert. Das Klebeband fungiert nicht mehr nur als Materie, sondern als Leinwand für Licht, wodurch ein völlig neues Raumerlebnis entsteht.
