The Brief: The Württembergischer Kunstverein in Stuttgart, a venue for contemporary art, offered its glass lobby as a canvas. The challenge was to utilize the architecture's transparency without completely blocking it. The goal was to create an installation that was not merely decorative, but one that altered the perception of the space and played with the gaze of passersby.
The Concept: "The Eye Liner Effect"
The TAPE OVER team opted for radical minimalism. The entire artwork consists exclusively of vertical lines. The concept is based on the Moiré effect and optical density. Through the precise arrangement of blue and cyan foil strips, an image emerges that changes depending on the viewer's standpoint. As you walk past the glass, the static image seems to flicker and move. We took the simple idea of a straight line and taped that rhythm onto the glass to trick the eye.
The Execution: On the 24-square-meter glass surface (6x4m), the artists worked with mathematical precision. Instead of taping complex shapes, they reduced the technique to the pure rhythm of the line. The use of semi-transparent foils in two cool shades ensures that the light is filtered while maintaining the view inside. It is a study of density and resolution. We carefully planned the spacing and taped that structure to create a vibrating visual field.
The Outcome: A shimmering artwork that transforms the glass facade into a visual filter. "EYE LINER" is a game with the eye: it attracts the gaze, directs it, and breaks up the building's hard architecture through the soft, almost textile-like appearance of the line structure.
Das Briefing: Der Württembergische Kunstverein in Stuttgart, ein Ort für zeitgenössische Kunst, stellte seine gläserne Lobby als Leinwand zur Verfügung. Die Herausforderung bestand darin, die Transparenz der Architektur zu nutzen, ohne sie vollständig zu blockieren. Es sollte eine Installation entstehen, die nicht bloß dekorativ ist, sondern die Wahrnehmung des Raumes verändert und mit den Blicken der Passanten spielt.
Das Konzept: „The Eye Liner Effect“ Das Team von TAPE OVER entschied sich für radikalen Minimalismus. Das gesamte Kunstwerk besteht ausschließlich aus vertikalen Linien. Das Konzept basiert auf dem Moiré-Effekt und der optischen Verdichtung. Durch die präzise Anordnung von blauen und cyanfarbenen Folienstreifen entsteht ein Bild, das sich je nach Standpunkt des Betrachters verändert. Bewegt man sich an der Scheibe vorbei, scheint das statische Bild zu flimmern und sich zu bewegen.
Die Umsetzung: Auf der 24 Quadratmeter großen Glasfläche (6x4m) arbeiteten die Künstler mit mathematischer Präzision. Statt komplexe Formen zu kleben, reduzierten sie die Technik auf den reinen Rhythmus der Linie. Die Verwendung von semitransparenten Folien in zwei kühlen Farbtönen sorgt dafür, dass das Licht gefiltert wird, der Blick nach drinnen aber erhalten bleibt. Es ist eine Studie über Dichte und Auflösung.
Das Ergebnis Ein flirrendes Kunstwerk, das die Glasfassade in einen visuellen Filter verwandelt. "Eye Liner" ist ein Spiel mit dem Auge: Es zieht den Blick an, lenkt ihn und bricht die harte Architektur des Gebäudes durch eine weiche, fast textile Anmutung der Linienstruktur auf.
